Oral health is being missed.
Around half of children experience tooth decay. In England, it remains the leading cause of hospital admission for children aged 5–9, despite being preventable. Brushing before bed matters most and yet, it is often rushed, resisted, or missed entirely.
Reading is in decline
Only 1 in 5 children now read daily. Reading for pleasure is at its lowest level in two decades.
Children are spending more time on short-form, fast-paced content.
A study of 3,322 children found that higher screen time before age 8 is associated with lower scores in reading and maths. This isn’t about intelligence, it’s about attention.
Attention shapes how children learn. Reading builds depth. Depth matters.
Sleep is under pressure.
Up to 50% of children experience sleep difficulties. Screens are designed to hold attention.
Children resist transitions.
Parents are exhausted.
Bedtime, once a natural wind-down, has become one of the hardest parts of the day.
